Web Copy Got You Down?

Luckily, you can write website content that attracts, connects with and converts your ideal clients. And I can show you how. Welcome to Write That SiteSM, an online course all about website copy.

Your Website Content Makes or Breaks Your Ability to Get New Clients

You have mere seconds to capture a website visitor’s attention and convince them to stay on your site. And you cannot guarantee where a visitor will first land when they come to your site. Sure, your Home page is the most common entry point. But it isn’t the only one. This means one simple thing:

Every. Word. Counts.

If you already have a website, now is a great time to ask yourself these questions:

Does your website copy make you sound boring or blasé?
Are your website visitors leaving your site without contacting you?
Did you work with a copywriter in the past who completely missed the mark on your voice and message?

If you answered “yes” to at least one of these questions, now’s the time to for you to take matters into your own hands and Write That SiteSM!

“All of This Sounds Great! But… I’m Not a Writer. Can I Actually Do This?”

Yes, of course, you can! And it’s much easier than you think.

How, you may ask? I’m going to let you in on a big copywriting secret: Web copywriting is more technical and structured than it is creative. There’s no need to think outside the box or hire a witty writer to wax poetic for you. All you need are the right steps, structure and strategy required to write your site.

If you are overwhelmed at the thought of writing your website, rest assured. There is no overwhelm here! Each module is dripped (sent out separately), so you can focus on one thing at a time to get the most out of each section, worksheet and bonus. Plus, when you join, you gain access to our Facebook group where you can ask questions and get help along the way!

Write That SiteSM is chock-full of step-by-step processes, templates and checklists to help you lay the foundation for website marketing success.

“Ok, I’m With You. I Hate Writing About Myself, Though. How Will I Know What to Write?”

Hey, I get it. Finding the right words to write about yourself is hard. I feel the same way!

I’ve also heard time and again from clients that they get writer’s block when they have to focus on themselves. And that they can’t write marketing copy because they aren’t trained marketing writers.

These are all excuses. Valid or not, these excuses are merely roadblocks that require removal. Which is where Write That SiteSM comes in. With the tools, processes and guidance I offer, you’ll be able to get past these roadblocks and more, allowing you to finally get the copy you’ve been craving.

Write That SiteSM Course Modules

#1: Business Branding
#2: Research
#3: Planning
#4: Writing
#5: Publishing & Maintaining

The first module in Write That SiteSM is all about you. With the help of videos and questionnaires, I will walk you through a series of questions and exercises to help you pinpoint:

  • What you do
  • Why you do what you do
  • Who you serve
  • What makes you different from your competition
  • And much more!

Armed with this information, you’ll be able to fill in the necessary copy to create conversion-focused copy for your website.

And, here’s another copywriting secret: While your website exists to market your business, it is not for your business. Nope, it’s for your clients. And it is written more about your clients than it is about you. That’s why we’ll also spend time in the first module focusing on your ideal clients—their pain points and needs, as well as the transformations they’re seeking.

By the end of Module 1, you’ll have all the following to help you move forward with your site:

  • Brand summary sheet
  • Clear values statement
  • Succinct elevator pitch
  • Ideal client avatar/buyer persona
  • Unique selling proposition

In this module, I will walk you through performing the three main areas of research required before you can plan your website content and begin writing:

  • Competitor research
  • Audience research
  • Keyword research

These three points of research all work in tandem on your site to help you stand out from the crowd and attract your ideal client.

To help you through this module, I will provide you pre-created spreadsheets you can use to capture important information about what your competition is doing, where your audience is online, and which words and phrases you need to target to get your audience’s attention.

With brand clarity and deep insights gained by research comes the ability to create a strategic plan for your website. In this short module, you will be guided through a goals exercise that will give you an overall approach to your copy. You will also create a well-organized sitemap—list of pages—that you will then use as you move forward in your writing efforts.

In Module 4, you will tackle the meat-and-potatoes section of your website. It is in this module you will gain all the knowledge and skills required to write on-target copy for each page on your site.

I’m not going to sugarcoat this for you—this module is where you’re going to be doing a majority of the heavy lifting for your site. To help keep things as clear as possible, I’ve broken this module into two sections:

  • Website Writing 101: From the fundamentals of copywriting and writing for the web to optimizing copy for search and beating writer’s block, I will walk you through all the basics of website writing.
  • Page-Specific How-To: Here I will walk you through the purpose, key message, layout and internal linking goals for each main page on your website, including your Home page, About page, Bio, Services page and Copy page.

This sounds like a lot, which it is. But remember, you won’t be approaching this alone. I’ll supply you with a content template that your website developer will rave about, as well as swipe files and sample page wireframes to help get you started. If you do the work and follow along closely, you will walk away from this module with the ability to write targeted copy that’s perfect for every page on your site.

Your content is written and ready for publication and ongoing management. Now it is time to ensure you publish your copy correctly and maintain it in a proper manner. By working through this final module, you will gain clarity on the steps required to:

  • Get your new pages web ready
  • Audit your website on a regular basis
  • Plan website updates to keep your site fresh

With enhancements like pre-publication checklists and a content inventory spreadsheet, you will have all the tools you need to publish and maintain your website content.

But Wait, There’s More! Write That SiteSM Bonuses!

FAQs

I Don’t Have a Website Yet. Is That a Problem?

Absolutely not! Sometimes starting from scratch is easier than trying to rework something you already have. Additionally, every website project often starts with content. Designers prefer to wait to see how the copy unfolds before they create wireframes and mockups.

And don’t forget about the bonuses! If you’re at all willing to create a WordPress website yourself, you’ll find some of the bonus content invaluable. Not only will you walk away from Write That SiteSM with copy you can be proud of, you’ll also be able to build, publish and maintain your own site. We’ll have you up and running in no time!

I Own a Product-Based Business. Is This Course for Me?

I would love to help every entrepreneur and business owner through this course. But the fact is that product writing requires a different approach to strategy and content creation. If you need specific assistance with product descriptions and other product-based writing services, I believe you’ll be best served by looking elsewhere at this time.

I Need Help With All My Marketing Copy. Does This Course Cover Writing Ads, Emails, Social Posts & Other Copy?

This course will not cover other copy topics. Your website is the hub for your business online. You need to get it right before you move on to other writing projects like email marketing, social media marketing and paid ads marketing.

That said, this course will give you the foundation required to launch other content marketing efforts. You’ll better understand your ideal client. You’ll better understand your own writing voice and how you want others to feel when they read your copy. You’ll better understand how people read online and how to write to keep their attention.

As this isn’t an all-in-one writing course, you know you’ll get the deep dive you need to finally Write That SiteSM (and write it right)!
